Children's Aikido Classes

Instructor: Murphy Davis

Children's classes are conducted by Murphy Davis, Sandan (Third Degree Black Belt). She has been teaching Aikido to children since 1991 following the teaching methods used by Nobuo Iseri Sensei who specialized in Aiki-movement for children and adults. Her classes emphasize the fundamental principles of Aikido, discipline, respect for others, and cooperation through partner practice.

Activities are designed to improve awareness and coordination skills. Children learn to develop at their own pace in a non-competitive environment, and test regularly for "belts" (rank designated by belt color).

Murphy has over twenty years of training in Aikido and is affiliated with the US Aikido Federation, Western Region.

Classes begin with exercises that stretch and strengthen. Children learn how to fall safely and basic Aikido body movements. They develop a sharper sense of awareness and improve mind-body coordination as they progress. Students begin to assimilate the technical basics of Aikido and ideally, integrate the non-aggressive blending philosophy of the art into various aspects of their daily lives. Through Aikido training, children learn to react calmly to aggression and difficult situations.

The idea is to have lots of fun while achieving the following goals:

Develop and expand physical and mental awareness.
Improve flexibility and coordination.
Enrich interpersonal skills.
Enhance self-esteem and self-confidence.
Provide overall body conditioning.

Classes: Thursdays, 5 to 6 pm and Saturdays, 9 to 10 am

Ages: 6 to 12 years old

Cost: $35.00 per month
